The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) gives a right of access to general information held by Veritau and Veritau North Yorkshire. The exception is access to environmental information which is provided by the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIRs).

How do I make a request?

You can make a request for information by emailing or writing to:

Information Governance Officer
Veritau Ltd
County Hall
Northallerton

Telephone: 01609 533219

Please state your name, postal or email address (which we can use to write back to you) and what information you would like. It will help us to answer your request if you explain as clearly as possible exactly what information you are interested in. We generally reply to requests by email but if you would like the information in any specific format please let us know when you make your request. We will respond as soon as possible and within 20 working days, which is the time limit set by legislation.

We can only give information regarding Veritau’s business or Veritau North Yorkshire’s business – requests for information belonging to any of its client councils should be submitted to the relevant council directly.

Veritau’s disclosure log and publication scheme

Before you submit a request you may first wish to have a look at the disclosure log. This is a list of requests under the FOIA and EIRs which we have already responded to and shows how we responded to those requests.

You may also wish to look at the publication scheme which is a list of documents that we already make publicly available.

What happens when I make a request?

When we receive your request, we will send you an acknowledgement so you know we have received it.

If you have asked for information which refers to another person or organisation we will usually let them know what information you have requested but, to protect your privacy, we would not tell them that it was you who made the request.

We will respond to your request as soon as possible, and within 20 working days, which is the time limit set by legislation.

Will I get all the information I ask for?

We will always provide as much information as possible but there are some important rules which allow us to withhold certain types of information. For example if providing the information would infringe someone else's privacy or, if providing the information would take longer than 18 hours. If we are unable to provide any information we will explain why. Please see the Information Commissioner’s website  for more information.

We can only give information regarding Veritau’s business or Veritau North Yorkshire’s business – requests for information belonging to any of its client councils should be submitted to the relevant council directly.

Will I have to pay for the information I ask for?

Where we can provide information electronically there won't usually be a charge. If we need to provide information in hard copy, and there is a lot of information, then we might make a charge to cover printing and postage costs, in accordance with our charging structure but we will write to you and tell you if this is the case.

What if I am unhappy with the response I receive to my request?

1) You can ask for an internal review of the response by writing to Veritau’s Information Governance Officer. If your request was for environmental information you need to write to us within 40 working days of our response to you.

Veritau’s Chief Executive will ask an officer who was not involved in the original response to reconsider the response you were given. The officer will look at your request, the information held by Veritau or Veritau North Yorkshire and the initial response which was sent to you. The officer will then inform you of the outcome of the review in due course.

2) Once you know the outcome of the review, if you are still unhappy, you can ask for an independent review by the Information Commissioner. Requests for a review should be made in writing directly to:
