Veritau is committed to conducting business in a responsible and sustainable way that is beneficial to all parties, the environment and the wider community. This includes promoting equality and inclusion.
Our Corporate Social Responsibility statement outlines our efforts to be conscious of our social, environmental and economic impact on the world.
Our values are defined by our commitment to the highest standards of propriety, good governance and ethical behaviour. Our employees are expected to uphold the principles of integrity, objectivity and independence.
We are proud to support our chosen charity, Chopsticks. We selected our charity with care, with input from all staff. We wanted to take advantage of our location and size to support a local charity and make a positive contribution. Chopsticks is a non-profit charity that caters for adults with disabilities, based in Northallerton. They produce premium grade kindling with biomass woodchip fuel made from timber which would have otherwise been sent to landfill.
Veritau also supports local communities by allowing employees to volunteer for local charities and voluntary organisations during work time. This benefits residents of the communities we work in, and allows employees to gain new skills and experience. We encourage those who are new to volunteering and those who volunteer on a regular basis. A total of ten days per annum is available for paid volunteering time.
Recycling schemes are in place at both our main offices. We source local goods and services wherever possible to help reduce our carbon footprint and to support the local economy. We also adopt working practices that are aimed at reducing waste and emissions, such as paperless working.
Flexible working practices are widely used to support our workforce and to help reduce environmental damage. For example, many employees take advantage of working from home one or two days a week, and we use conference call software for out-of-area meetings where appropriate, avoiding unnecessary travel.
Training and professional development is a key business priority. We currently operate a graduate training programme and recruit up to ten trainees each year. We advertise these opportunities on local platforms and through local universities.
Employees across all service areas are given the chance to become professionally qualified in their field. Veritau supports them throughout this process, providing funding for the courses and paid study leave for coursework and revision. Many opportunities are given throughout the year for employees to undertake additional training on a range of topics suitable for their role. Every six months, all staff come together for a training and development day where the focus is on team building and sharing best practice.
We offer work experience opportunities to students in further and higher education. The Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors has recently developed an apprenticeship programme for internal auditors, through Kaplan. We intend to offer a small number of these apprenticeships in the near future to those looking to begin a career in internal audit.
