Scarborough Borough Council is set to join the Veritau group. Veritau provides internal audit, counter fraud, information governance and risk management services to over 500 public sector clients.

Initially established in 2009 as a partnership between City of York Council and North Yorkshire County Council, Veritau now has eight member councils. The group is wholly owned by the public sector and provides services to a range of clients. This includes local authorities and many smaller bodies, from primary schools to national parks.

The group is dedicated to providing comprehensive and effective assurance services to its clients. As a recognised Investor in People, Veritau prioritises training and development. Part of this involves running a graduate trainee scheme for those wishing to develop a career in audit, fraud, or data protection.

Scarborough’s new service begins on 1 April 2020. The members of the existing audit and fraud team are transfering to Veritau.

Chief Executive Max Thomas, who was instrumental in Veritau’s formation, is pleased to welcome Scarborough as the next member council.

“This is an exciting time to join Veritau. We began in 2009 with just two authorities and since then we’ve expanded significantly. Earlier this year we welcomed more new councils to our partnership, and are delighted to have Scarborough on board too.

“Public sector delivery has never been more challenging. Increased demand for services combined with reduced resources and technological change means a greater need for effective assurance. I’m delighted to welcome Scarborough to the partnership and we are looking forward to working with them.”
