Successful Blue Badge Day of Action carried out by Veritau and three local authorities

On 23 May 2025, Veritau coordinated a successful Blue Badge Day of Action in partnership with three of its client councils—City of York Council, Middlesbrough Council, and Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council. The initiative was aimed at identifying and addressing the misuse of Blue Badges across the three local authority areas.
As part of the operation, enforcement officers from each council conducted on-the-ground inspections of Blue Badges displayed in parked vehicles at various high-traffic and high-risk locations. Across the combined areas, a total of 153 Blue Badges were checked, with five suspected cases of misuse identified. Investigations are now underway to determine appropriate enforcement outcomes.
The Blue Badge scheme provides essential support for individuals with disabilities, helping them to park closer to their destination, access services, maintain independence, and participate in daily life. Misuse of the scheme—whether by using another person’s badge, continuing to use a badge after the holder has died, or altering a badge—undermines the scheme’s purpose and causes real harm to genuine users.
Veritau worked closely with the three councils to plan and deliver the operation, which also served as a regional lead-up to the national Blue Badge Day of Action, which took place on 30 May 2025.

The misuse of Blue Badges is a criminal offence and can result in serious consequences, including fines, confiscation of the badge, and prosecution. Through this coordinated approach, Veritau and its partners aim to protect the integrity of the scheme and promote fair access to parking for those who truly need it.
