Internal Audit Awareness Month 2025 takes place throughout May and aims to promote the profession, demonstrating the value internal audit can add to organisations.
Run by The Institute of Internal Auditors, Internal Audit Awareness Month 2025 is celebrated globally. We’re taking this opportunity to highlight what internal audit means and raise awareness of what auditors do to help organisations achieve their goals.
What is Internal Audit and what do auditors do?
Internal audit helps to provide confidence that an organisation is operating effectively.
Internal auditors act as a catalyst for change, challenging existing processes and championing best practice. They examine a range of areas to assure managers that internal controls, governance, and risk management are operating appropriately.
Internal audits can cover any area of the organisation. Within a local government context, audit provides assurance that public resources are being used efficiently. The function exists to help managers and services ensure that their service performs to the best of its ability.
